Save the Sheep

Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full!
One for my master, one for my dame.
And one for the little boy who lives down the lane.

So we finally furnished our living room. New couch. New rug. The rug makes the room look lighter and adds much needed texture to the room. The rug is 100% wool and is supposed to be "the best". We love the way it looks, and if looks were all that mattered we would be happy.
However, it feels like we have a huge 500 pound dog (or sheep) living in our house. Anything that comes in contact with the rug immediately looks like a lint roller. We have vacuumed it at least seven times in the past 24 hours since we received it, each with the same end result...more fluff.
HELP!!! We do not like hair, hence the reason for us not ever owning any pets. Our main reason for purchase was so that Carson could sit and play on the rug but I am afraid to put Carson on it for fear of him eating the fuzz. Andrew read online that this is normal-what? - "a new wool carpet may actually shed heavily for the first few months of use." We wish we would have read that before ordering.
If anyone has experience or any tips for us we welcome all suggestions...no matter how crazy they sound. We are desperate and would like to "save our sheep" from being returned if at all possible.
In the meantime Carson and I might just cough up a hairball.

Can you contact the manufacturer? Maybe they have a solution. If not, it may merit being returned.

Post a pic of the new couch!

Oh my gosh, I love your blog, you're too funny, even though we don't talk much (which needs to change haha) I feel like I totally know you! So, did you get this pottery barn???????? We just got one about three and a half months ago from there. 100% wool, and it creeped me out too haha! Jameson would totally have a handful of it within a matter of seconds, and it was sooo gross! The bad news for us anyways, I vaccume it everyday and it still fills the canister with the wool...yuck! BUT...jameson doesn't get handfuls anymore! He can crawl around and all sorts of stuff, and it is way better then before. So it still fills the vacumme (I wonder sometimes if I vaccume it everyday will I have a rug anymore next year??) but, it does not "shed" anymore! Good luck!! And it looks good by the way!!

Well, let me know if for any reason the sectional doesn't work out and we'll take it off your hands. That is like my dream couch. Nice taste :) Sorry bout the rug. That would make me worry with a kid in the "put everything in mouth" phase!!! Hope it stops shedding for ya :)

Les: Changed the picture just for you, but I feel like I am showing off now...
Katie: The rug is not from potterybarn although we considered it and they do have nice rugs there. Yesterday I vacuumed the rug six times, I feel like it is my full time job and like you I wonder if I am just vacuuming away our rug.
Joanie: Thanks and if for some reason decide to get ride of the couch I'll let you know but we will probably have it until it falls apart and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want it then:)

I am so sorry... but I had to laugh!! Our living room rug did that for months after we moved in too... and its NOT wool! I think its just "new" carpets! we just vacuumed every day!

The room looks fantastic, BTW!

love the couch. sorry i don't have any advice about the wool problem.

The wool rugs from Pottery Barn do this too. It helps to sweep it with a broom. That helps scrape the excess wool off. It will still take some time, but it works wonders. (I guess I actually did learn something useful from working there.)
P.S. Your sectional looks great.

PS. I also had the thought that at least you won't be dealing with all the fuzz for the life of the rug... unlike if it was a dog! :-)

hey tiffani...i don't know you, but I know your husband! and besides, any friend of sheena's is a friend of mine. thanks for the advice. We settled on a different color that we love...still very green, but a lot easier on the eyes. Your living room looks great!

I'm so sorry...that can be so frustrating. But it does look nice.

It was fun seeing you the other night. I wish we would have had a chance to talk more. Also, I've got to try the pizza. Scott would love it. Thanks for the idea.

So I don't have any advice about the hair balls. But I talked to my mom, who owns a carpet cleaning business, and she said that wool carpet is amazing, and that her mom has wool carpet in her house (it's blue) that is over 50 years old and is still in good condition, she said that it doesn't wear, so to your concern of vacuuming it all away, don't worry I don't think it is going anywhere.
