Loon Lake Chalet

My mom had this chalet all week so we drove up to visit. It took forever to get there through steep, windy roads. But once there, it is conveniently located less than 1/2 mile from the lake. Unlike the cabin last week this one had electricity, just not a shower.
This morning we went kayaking. It was Andrew's first time, but it was no surprise to me that he was a natural.

California State Fair

We went to the California State Fair to see the All-American Rejects. Even though it was 102 degrees outside at the hottest part of the day, we sweated it out and had a riot! A security guard was even nice enough to give us ear plugs for Carson--it's a good thing 'cause the music was blasting!
While waiting for the concert to start, we escaped the heat by walking through the many exhibits. Our favorite exhibit was Toytopia: "Land of Toys" where an artist had made a The California Golden Bear out of Lego's. I normally can't stand these cheesy cutouts but we just couldn't resist Thomas the Train.
After the concert we stayed until the fair closed just to watch the fireworks show...I'm a sucker for fireworks and it was the perfect ending for our date.

Lunar Eclipse

Last night star gazers and those crazy enough to stay up (practically all night) got to see a total eclipse. I have never been that crazy about astronomy but I wanted to see this natural wonder. Needless to say I could only make myself stay up until 1am, and then we woke up again at 4am in time to see the rusty moon.
*Note: I did take my own pictures, however, my camera isn't professional and as a result the moon looked like just another star in the sky...I thought you might enjoy these better!
