A Day of Rest

Our little brain-iac

Sundays are supposed to be a day of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation-yeah right. Carson is generally a good kid but for some reason (ever since he was born even) he has a REALLY hard time at church. For the first time in my life I dread going to church because I spend most of the three hour block in the hall doing one of two things

1) entertaining him because he was squealing super loud in Sunday school or Relief Society or
2) I am trying to get him to fall asleep...key word there is TRY.

Beginning the New Year I was optimistic that it would bring change. So, initially I was excited that our church time was changing from 8:30 am to 10:30 am because I felt like we were rushing and frantic to get out the door and I was hoping that Carson would appreciate and adhere to this schedule a little better. However, our new time is right when he normally naps. One would think that if he was tired enough, like he was today, he would pass out. Unfortunately, instead he fights it. At church all of the other kids his age seem to either quietly play on the floor or sit calmly in their mothers laps. For one child, he takes up so much energy and I am starting to think that he is a high maintenance child.

Can anyone else relate, or am I just sensitive?
Any suggestions?

I'll take suggestions too! Ever since our time changed to 1, Bryson is aweful. It is naptime and he fights it the whole time. We even bring a blanket, today he actually fell asleep (for Josh) after I TRIED to get him to fall asleep all during sacrament. I don't know why but he always seemed to fall asleep with Josh, maybe it is the tie. But I think we are going to bring a bottle next week and see if that works. Good Luck! And if it helps, really people dont notice your child if he is making little noises here and there, they are worrying about their kid, so dont panic.

Both my kids were really bad during church. At least i can tell you that both of them have grown out of it. You are where you are spoused to be and you're showing Carson that on Sundays this is what we do. It may take time, and ALOT of patience. If worse comes to worse, at least you know that at 18 months you only have to struggle with him during sacrament and then get to pass him off to the nursery. Is Carson eating solid foods yet? Food always keeps my kids quiet!

Sara is doing the same thing, her new deal is that she won't nurse at church!!! I had to come home and pump she was so worked up. Then she wouldn't sleep either. Come on baby - you're on;y 3 months old! It has been a long day!!!

My suggestion - pray harder! :)

Tiffani-- EVERY MOTHER IN EVERY WARD I'VE EVER KNOWN can relate to you!! Why even bother going to church, right? The whole block is spent in the hallways. A lot of really great moms I've known whose children are grown have told me to hang in there because the amount of time spent out in the halls at church is such a small portion of your life. Now, when Jaron was Carson's age, I really didn't believe them. But, now he is 7 and I can't believe how fast the time has gone and I do believe those wise women. It is a lousy time for church when it comes to naptimes, and lunch, for that matter. But, on the bright side, there are so many kids in our humongous ward that Carson's antics probably bother you more than anyone else! You're a good mom. Sundays will be a day or rest again sometime in your future! Besides, he is so darned cute!

Um, yeah, I can definitely relate haha! We had to leave today because Jameson was literally like a bullhorn!!! I'm not joking, we were in the hall and no matter how much we bounced him or what position he was in he would not be quiet, so there was no way we were even going to attempt to take him into a class. But isn't it funny how at home they want you to hold them alllll day, for hours if you'd let them, yet at church when you're willing and trying to hold them for three hours, all they want is to scream and squirm!! ughhhh, the joys...haha! But they sure are cute!!

We have the same problem with both the boys. Church=lets get in trouble and cause a ruckus. Hopefully they grow out of it like Juila said?? One could only hope. Goood luck!

Church is so hard sometimes. Especially with little boys who have tons of energy. One trick we found was taking the stroller and walking around the gym and around and around until they finally doze off. It may take a while but it works.

Good luck!

I feel your pain. Caelan was like that too. She was wonderful until she started moving around and then it was "off to the foyer we go" again and again. No child is going to be perfect in church, especially when it's during nap time. It's one of those "grin and bear it" times. Sucks but it gets better. I personally think he does pretty good, but then I have my own child I am trying to keep her quiet. I don't realize any other kid unless he/she is screaming. You'll figure out what works for you. Good luck.

I feel your pain. Both my kids only liked to nap in their beds and so I always dreaded church. It was a hard 3 hours but now as I look back, I know it was the right thing to just stick it out and teach them that that's just what we do on Sundays. I will tell you they do get better as they get older...(not that my kids are quiet and perfect now HA!) but it does get easier as they grow out of those naps. You're a great mom!! And you are not the only one feeling that way!!
