This is one of Andrew's favorite types of sandwiches and before a couple of Sundays ago when I made them, I had never had one. Andrew claims that they were just as good any restaurants version and I thought that they had great flavor.
French Dip Sandwich
2 Tbsp butter
1 shallot, chopped
1 Tbsp flour
2 cans beef stock, or what I used2 bouillon cubes dissolved into 2 cups of water
1 1/2 lbs. thin sliced roast beef
Grill seasoning blend for steak, salt and pepper, rosemary and thyme
sourdough bread-I used San Luis
In a large skillet over moderate heat, melt butter. Add shallots to butter and saute 2 minutes. Add flour to butter and shallot and cook a minute longer. Whisk in beef stock in a slow stream. Bring sauce to bubble and allow to simmer over low heat until ready to serve sandwiches.
Pile meat loosly across your cutting board. Season meat. Set cups for dipping sauce, plates and sourdough. To assemble, using kitchen tongs, dip meat into loose au jus sauce and pile across sourdough. Set cups with extra dipping sauce along sandwich or on plate as I did for easy dipping.

Looks like a good "circle" meal!
oh this looks yummy - i am going to have to try it.
Hey, re: the sandbox - we got it at Sam's club - it came with both the sand table AND a little picnic table (which the kids also love) - both have umbrellas. The sand table is actually a sand/water table half/half but i know the sand would never stay separate from the water so for now we just have sand in the whole thing. it is pretty fun and as i said on my blog everyone i know who has an actual box, regrets it because the sand is everywhere. Oh-forgot to mention that the sand table has a cover so you can keep the sand free of debris and cat poop. i think for both things we paid like $119. I have seen just the table separate at toys r us too!

That looks sooo good! Thanks for sharing... by the way, i can't believe you are training for a 1/2 marathon. Way to go! :)
I love how you have your "Tasty Tuesdays" How do you decide on your recipe for the week? Carson is getting so big...I love B&W picture of him with his teeth showing!
As for the 1/2 coming up...I've had a few injuries because of my outdoor soccer team so unfortunately it's thrown my training back a bit. I hope to get out there and still run in the 5k. How is your training going?
Rose: My Tasty Tuesdays are mostly random, but I post recipe that are favorites at our house or that we have tried lately and have liked. Sorry to hear about your injuries, that is a bummer. I am still planning on running the 1/2 on the 3rd so you'll have to wish me luck because I just want to finish in one piece!
